Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has made plenty of history throughout his Hall of Fame worthy career.

Kelce has been especially dominant during the playoffs. His 178 receptions are the most in NFL postseason history, and his 2,078 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns are second only to legendary wide receiver Jerry Rice.

Kelce’s performance during the 2020 AFC Championship Game was one of his quieter ones (three catches, 30 yards), but the Chiefs’ victory got him to his first Super Bowl. During the celebration after the game, Kelce had one of his many memorable moments.

Nantz joined Wednesday’s episode of the New Heights podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce. They got onto the subject of the 2020 AFC Championship Game, and Nantz revealed that Travis delivering the “Fight for your right to party” line wasn’t supposed to happen.

“One time there was a show premiering on CBS after the AFC Championship Game,” Nantz said. “They’re telling me we’ve got to get through this, make it really fast. Patrick (Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes) answers a question and I’m looking at you (Travis) letting you know I’m coming to you next.

“They’re saying in my ear, do not go to another question. I say, hey, before we go, Travis come over here real quick. This was the first time [delivered] the ‘Fight for your right to party’. But, the ‘F’ in fight drags on so long that I thought, not only have I been guilty of insubordination, I’ve just walked into an F-bomb on the CBS TV Network. I was so relieved when the word came out with an ‘F-I’ instead of F-whatever.”

The Chiefs went on to win Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers two weeks later. They have played in five more AFC Championship Games (winning four) and four Super Bowls (winning two) since then. Kelce has delivered the ‘Fight for your right to party” line multiple times during that run, and the team even adopted the 1986 Beastie Boys hit as their touchdown celebration song.

Kelce briefly mulled over retirement for the second consecutive offseason, but will return for a 14th season with the Chiefs in 2026. Despite having countless opportunities outside of football to choose from, he still has a burning desire to continue to play.

Kelce needs just more 45 receiving yards to pass Jason Witten for the second most all-time by a tight end. If the Chiefs return to the postseason, Kelce will need 168 receiving yards and three touchdowns to pass Rice for the most of each in playoff history.

Above all else, however, Kelce wants to win his fourth Super Bowl. The Chiefs signed free agent running back Kenneth Walker III to elevate the offense, and will likely add more weapons during the 2026 NFL Draft.
