Insider Floats Jets-Packers Draft Day Trade Pitch for WR

The New York Jets could look to the trade market to fill their WR void.

NFL reporter Ralph Vacchiano of FOX Sports revealed the NFL player that each AFC team should trade for during the 2026 NFL draft. For the Jets, he provided an interesting pass catcher option.

New York Jets receive: wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks

Green Bay Packers receive: a 2026 fourth-round pick (No. 103 overall)

“The Jets have a black hole at receiver opposite Garrett Wilson, but they also have time to fill it since their franchise quarterback won’t arrive until the 2027 draft. In Wicks, they’d get a 25-year-old with plenty of promise and limited production (108,1,328-11 in three seasons in Green Bay). He’s buried on the Packers’ depth chart and unlikely to be re-signed after 2026, so a Day 3 pick might be enough. Wicks would give New York a competent second receiver for this season and could be a contributor beyond that,” Vacchiano wrote.

Jets-Packers Have Already Had Exploratory Trade Discussions

According to Easton Butler of Packer Report, the Jets and Packers have already had trade discussions about Wicks this offseason.

Butler revealed that the Jets weren’t the only team kicking the tires on a potential deal. The other teams included the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, and the Las Vegas Raiders, Butler shared.

“I think a trade has to be a possibility on draft weekend. You know some names have been out there. We have talked about Brian Thomas; you’ve got Dontavyion Wicks from Green Bay. I think he could be available. I do think they will make a lower-level wide receiver trade. It’s not going to be A.J. Brown or anything like that, but I think [general manager Darren Mougey] is definitely looking to add to that room,” ESPN’s Rich Cimini explained on the new “Jets Collective” podcast.

A Multi-Pronged Approach Is Best

The Jets should look to add multiple pass catchers this offseason. There are a lot of different avenues to pursue, including but not limited to free agency, the 2026 NFL draft, and the trade market.

If the Jets were smart, they’d double-dip that chip this offseason to add more than one name at wide receiver. Are we going to reach a point where the Jets have too many wide receivers? If they do reach that stage, that is what kids like to call a first-world problem.

That would be a welcome change from what they dealt with last season, not having enough competent wide receivers at their disposal.

Wicks is competent. He hasn’t been an All-Pro or even a Pro Bowler, but he has made plays when called upon at the NFL level. The 24-year-old will turn 25 before the start of the 2026 season. He is heading into the final year of his rookie contract.

If all it costs is a day three draft choice, then that is smart business for the Jets. Wicks, who will be in the final year of his deal, will be as motivated as he ever will be to perform in 2026. If he impresses this season, the Jets could extend him on a long-term deal or let him walk out the door and play comp pick bingo in 2027.

If it flops, who cares? The Jets have screwed up plenty of fourth-round picks in the past, and Wicks would simply join that long conga line. Sometimes you gotta risk it to get the biscuit and hope for the best.
