Former Chiefs tackle Jawaan Taylor lands in the NFC on a one-year deal: details

Former Kansas City Chiefs starting right tackle Jawaan Taylor found a new team Wednesday, agreeing to contract terms with the Atlanta Falcons.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who cited Taylor’s agents in his report, it’s a one-year deal worth $5 million with up to an additional $1 million in incentives.

Taylor, 28, signed with the Chiefs during the 2023 offseason and played three years in Kansas City before being released in early March. The long-anticipated move created $20 million in 2026 cap space for the Chiefs.

In 2023, Taylor took over the team’s right tackle spot after the departure of Andrew Wylie. Over the next three seasons, he logged 45 regular-season starts and seven playoff starts, including KC’s Super Bowl LVIII victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

As the Chiefs’ roster currently stands, Jaylon Moore is the projected starter at right tackle, with Esa Pole and Chu Godrick providing some offseason competition.

With NFL Draft month ramping up — it starts just two weeks from Thursday — some analysts have suggested the Chiefs could take a tackle as high as No. 9 overall. While that’s not a guarantee, KC is expected to select a tackle at some point during draft weekend.

Taken in the second round in 2019, Taylor spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
