The interior offensive line was a focus for the Los Angeles Chargers after being one of the worst in the league last season.

LA brought in center Tyler Biadasz to fill in the position on a three-year, $30 million deal, but has yet to address the guard spots. The Bolts still have cap space and draft capital to make a move happen.

One NFL reporter believes the Chargers can answer the void in the guard spots with a trade just before the 2026 NFL Draft.

Bolts Urged to Trade for Former Mike McDaniel Player

Mike McDaniel was one of the hottest coaches in the recent hiring cycle, getting head coaching and offensive coordinator interviews. In the end, the former Miami Dolphins head coach opted to become the next OC of the Justin Herbert-led offense.

The Bolts already reunited McDaniel with one of his former players, guard Cole Strange, to a two-year deal after playing with him in the 2025 season. While head coach Jim Harbaugh mentioned that Strange would be the starter for the right guard spot, it leaves the left guard spot open.

Fox Sports Ralph Vacchiano dropped a trade idea for all the teams in the AFC before the start of the draft, with the Bolts trade idea landing them Dolphins center Aaron Brewer.

“Even a sell-happy team like the Dolphins isn’t going to be eager to trade a 28-year-old center who ranks near the top of the league at his position and has an affordable salary. But he is going to be a free agent next year and could cost a small fortune,” Vacchiano wrote.

“So it wouldn’t be crazy for the Dolphins to get something for him now and find his replacement in the draft. As for the Chargers, their top priority has to be keeping QB Justin Hebert upright, and all they did was add center Tyler Biadasz and guard Cole Strange in free agency. Brewer would be an upgrade, though the Dolphins surely would want a high pick since they’d prefer to keep him around.”

Brewer, who has played the 2025 season exclusively at the center position, also played as a guard in his career and could become a two-way player for Mike McDaniel. If not, a training camp battle would be held to determine the starting center.

Pro Football Focus graded the center as the second-best player at his position in the previous season, receiving an 87.4 overall grade. Brewer recorded a 91.5 run block grade and a 71.2 pass block grade, the 1st and 10th-best from the publication. His performance in the Dolphins’ 7-10 season earned him a second-team All-Pro nod, the first of his career.

In Vacchiano’s trade pitch, the Bolts give up their 55th and 123rd overall picks in exchange for Aaron Brewer.

What Would Aaron Brewer Bring to the Chargers

Omarion Hampton

Aaron Brewer allowed just one sack in the 2025 season, which is a good sign for Justin Herbert, who was sacked 54 times last season, the third most in the league.

Alongside the pass blocking, as noted, Brewer excels in the run block, which is a good sign for Omarion Hampton, who will be entering his second season in the league.

This allows the Bolts to get the best run blocker and have Hampton run loose after a promising rookie season.

The center can help in different phases of the game, at multiple positions. If the Los Angeles Chargers can get Aaron Brewer, it could help the team past the AFC wildcard.
