The Cleveland Browns are hoping Todd Monken can be the head coach that can finally get the franchise on track and become a legitimate contender in the AFC.
Despite not being a hot name on the radar for other NFL teams during the offseason head coaching search, Cleveland hired Monken who served as the Ravens’ offensive coordinator for the last two seasons, as the man who can turn the tide for the Browns.
At age 60, Monken has built a career as an offensive assistant in both college and the NFL and while the Browns have had a solid defense over the last few years, they have struggled mightily on offense.
Cleveland is betting on Monken being the answer to the offensive woes that have plagued the franchise for decades.
Browns HC Todd Monken gives NFSW response when asked about missing NFL coaches photo
In his first year as a NFL head coach, it’s safe to say Monken wants to prove himself as capable for the job in the elite fraternity.
But last week at the NFL league meeting in Phoenix, Monken missed the group photo that typically includes all 32 head coaches.
When asked about missing the photo, which reportedly was taken 20 minutes before it was scheduled, the Cleveland Browns head coach gave a shocking response:
“I really don't give s--t. I mean, it had nothing to do with me,. I mean, they moved the meeting. I didn't miss it. I was just trying to get a sweet haircut. I mean, that's what I was trying to do. And then they moved the meeting.
Was it disappointing? You bet your ass it was disappointing. Head coach, I'm not in the head coaches picture. You'd think with AI they could've done that quickly and gotten me in there.
But no, that's the way it is. It'll be under the bridge, and what will matter most is how we move from here and do we win or not."
It’s clear getting a haircut was a top priority for Monken, who told Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot he skipped a coaches meeting to have enough time to run out and make it back for the coaches photo.
"He said thought he had it timed up perfectly, because the photo was scheduled for noon Pacific time. It was even written on the agenda that way,” Cabot wrote.
When the season comes around, nobody will remember Monken missed the NFL coaches photo, but it isn’t the best look for the first-year head coach.
