De'Von Achane's actions on social media provided the Dolphins with some good news

The Miami Dolphins are entering a new era led by a new front office. At the helm of Miami’s front office is new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan, who was brought over from the Green Bay Packers where he served as the vice president of player personnel.

Upon arriving in Miami, Sullivan decided that the best way forward for the Dolphins was to tear down the roster. Sullivanreleased veteran players like Tyreek Hill, Bradley Chubb, Tua Tagovailoa, Alec Ingold and Jason Sanders, all of which had previously had success in the NFL. Additionally,he traded Jaylen Waddleto the Denver Broncos and Minkah Fitzpatrick to the division rival New York Jets.

That led many to believe that the Dolphins were willing to part with any player on the team’s roster. And while Sullivan indicated that the team was open to listening to offers on any player, he still identified a few members of the roster as players he wanted to build the team around. One of those players is Pro Bowl running back De’Von Achane, who is seeking an extension as he has only one year remaining on his rookie contract.

De’Von Achane’s Relationship With the Miami Dolphins

After beginning voluntary offseason workouts, Achane was the lone member of the Miami Dolphins toskip the workouts, likely due to his ongoing contract request. However, despite this, it appears that the relationship between the Dolphins and Achane has not soured as therunning back liked Miami’s latest Instagram post, which featured Dolphins players in the team’s first workout session.

Miami has already publicly stated their intention of wanting to keep Achane around long term. General manager Jon-Eric Sullivan previously said, “Yeah, it’s important to us to get a deal done with De’Von. He is a difference maker as a player. We are in talks. We’re gonna try to get that done. It’s a priority to us. He is a building block for us as we move forward.”

Aside from calling Achane a building block, Sullivan also said, “We’re excited about moving forward with Achane and getting him done and having him be a huge part of what we’re doing.”

Achane is not the only member of the Dolphins that Sullivan identified as a “building block.” He used that term to describe linebacker Jordyn Brooks and center Aaron Brewer, who also have only one year remaining on their contracts, but they did participate in voluntary workouts.

De’Von Achane’s Value

While one could make the argument that the Dolphins would be best served trading Achane to a contending team in exchange for more draft capital, Miami still needs to surround new quarterback Malik Willis with talent around him. Aside from his explosiveness out of the backfield, which led to Achane leading the league in yards per carry last season, he is also among the best receivers among running backs.

Last season, despite Miami’s struggling passing offense, the team managed to win six of the final eight games in which Achane played. Putting him in the same backfield as a dual-threat quarterback like Willis could create real issues for opposing defenses as Miami hopes to stay competitive in 2026.
