More bad news for Chelsea kid Aaron Anselmino as nightmare season gets worse

Aaron Anselmino has endured a difficult season after being sent on loan to two different clubs and now, the Chelsea talent has received more bad news on loan at Strasbourg.

Like many other young players signed during the Todd Boehly era, Anselmino went back on loan to Boca Juniors after Chelsea signed him for £15.6m in the summer of 2024. But he was recalled in January 2025.

The centre-back would play just once for Chelsea before going on loan to Borussia Dortmund at the start of this season. Injury, though, has crept into Anselmino’s career and he played just 10 times in Germany.

Come January, a decision was required. Chelsea needed a centre-back and preferred Mamadou Sarr, so they recalled Anselmino and sent him to Strasbourg to replace Sarr. It means for Anselmino, utter chaos.

You can only pick ONE, Chelsea fans 👀

Gary O’Neil is concerned about Anselmino’s fitness, with the defender managing only two appearances since his move to France. Now, another devastating blow for the defender has emerged just this week.

Anselmino injured again as Chelsea gem’s nightmare continues

Argentina U20 star Anselmino only managed 10 Dortmund outings due to issues with his hamstring, and it is the same issue interrupting his Strasbourg stint. Now, Anselmino has been ruled out of action again.

As per French newspaper L’Equipe, Anselmino will not be a part of Strasbourg’s squad on Thursday night when they go to Germany to take on Bundesliga side Mainz in the Europa League knockout stages.

If there is one silver lining, O’Neil confirmed it is not the same hamstring that has hampered Anselmino: “It’s the other hamstring this time. He needs to undergo tests to determine the severity of the injury.”

Tears, Dortmund beef and Anselmino’s hamstring problems

When Anselmino was recalled by Chelsea in January 2025, he might have thought that his career was finally set to take off. Almost 18 months later, and he’s yet to prove a penny of the £15.6m transfer fee.

Hardly his fault, either. In two years, he’s been on loan at three different clubs as well as remaining at Chelsea for six months. When he was asked to leave Dortmund, Anselmino responded with tears.

He loved it in Germany despite his hamstring issues. There is beef between Chelsea and Dortmund, too. Chelsea were not impressed with Dortmund’s cheeky tactics to convince Anselmino to sign permanently.

Now, Anselmino looks set to remain on the sidelines for a few more weeks and ultimately, the Chelsea star’s season is as good as over. Another loan is more than likely come the start of the 26-27 season.
