The latest Man Utd transfer news and gossip ahead of the summer transfer window.

Manchester United are in the market for at least two midfield signings in the summer transfer window ahead of their expected return to the Champions League.

United have prioritised a midfield refresh at the end of the season and want to add a minimum of two midfielders to their first-team squad. Manchester World have previously revealed United want to sign an elite option this summer and are prepared to break their club-record for the right target.

Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson is viewed as the dream addition, while there is also interest in Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton. A move for Newcastle ace Sandro Tonali is viewed as unlikely due to his wage demands, though United are also looking at Joao Gomes, Alex Scott and Mateus Fernandes as cheaper alternatives.

Romano confirms Manchester United midfield plans

Manchester United will lose Casemiro as a free agent this summer, while the club are prepared to let Manuel Ugarte leave on a permanent deal. It means they need replacements for both players and arguably even need a third midfielder to help cope with the possible return to Champions League football.

Speaking in his latest YouTube video, notorious transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano confirmed the plans to sign two midfielders at the end of the season. "Man United decision for the midfield position for the summer transfer window, is going in the direction to sign two midfielders. Casemiro is leaving, we know that," he said.

“The other update I can give you is, according to my information today, Manuel Ugarte could also leave Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

“Some movements have already started to find solutions for Manuel Ugarte. So you can imagine, with Casemiro leaving, Ugarte leaving, with Manchester United probably playing Champions League football, for sure playing European football, it means that United need two more midfielders.

"The decision at the club is one guaranteed, the second is starting to become almost guaranteed."
