Report: Chelsea get green light to sign Robert Sanchez replacement for £43m

A priority for Chelsea this summer will be the addition of a starting goalkeeper, as Robert Sanchez’s errors continue to hamper Liam Rosenior’s side. One goalkeeper targeted is Roma’s Mile Svilar.

Chelsea have managed just four clean sheets in Rosenior’s 20 games, and one of those was with Filip Jorgensen in goal against Pafos. Sanchez has been guilty of many mistakes at an individual level.

Everton, Arsenal, Wrexham, you name it. Sanchez is a top goalkeeper but is clearly suffering from a crisis of confidence and if Jorgensen’s display in Paris is anything to go by, the Dane is not ready to come in.

Chelsea need an experienced goalkeeper at the top of his game to join and remove the doubt between the sticks. Well, how about a Serie A option that has kept 13 clean sheets in Italy’s top tier; Mile Svilar.

Roma stance on Mile Svilar as Italian side mirror Chelsea issue

Chelsea are struggling to qualify for the Champions League and failure to do so will see the Blues miss out on mass revenue. Indeed, GRV Football Finance expert Adam Williams reckons it could be £300m.

That is the problem also facing Roma, currently. Gian Piero Gasperini’s first season at the Olimpico has not gone well, with Roma currently sitting in sixth place and four points adrift of the Serie A’s top four.

But one shining light in Roma’s frustrating season is Svilar. The Serbia star has been excellent in goal for Roma, keeping 13 clean sheets. That caught Chelsea’s eye, who have been linked with Svilar since January.

Now, a report from Italian side Siamo La Roma claim that if Roma fail to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League, some assets will be sold. Roma will sell Svilar for £43m if they fail to qualify.

That gives Chelsea the green light. While the Blues might not qualify for the Champions League, they still have massive financial gain over clubs in Serie A, where the margins are tighter. Svilar may leave Roma.

Chelsea are not the only Premier League club eyeing Mile Svilar

Chelsea have already been linked with a handful of Serbia internationals. Club Brugge’s Aleksandar Stankovic, Dejan’s son, is on Chelsea’s radar as is AC Milan defender Strahinja Pavlovic, this summer.

Which goalkeeper do you want Chelsea to sign this summer?

Roma's Mile Svilar has been linked.

Dusan Vlahovic is a long-standing target for many Premier League clubs including Chelsea, if he ever does decide to leave Juventus. But Svilar could be the one Chelsea need the most this summer.

However, according to the latest report from Italy, it appears Chelsea are not the only Premier League club considering Svilar. Indeed, Newcastle also want to sign a new goalkeeper and Svilar is an option.

Ultimately, it sees Chelsea and Newcastle get the green light to sign Svilar if they are willing to meet Roma’s reasonable asking price – and if Roma fail to qualify for the Champions League this season.
