Man City are reportedly eyeing up a move for a Bundesliga wonderkid heading into the summer.

Man City have an eye for spotting talent in Europe who they can nurture and turn into the next great Premier League star. They will need to do this in the summer, as they have the tough task of potentially replacing one of the best players in the world.

Rodri is out of contract in June 2027, and so if Man City don’t extend his contract, the former Ballon d’Or winner will leave for free at the end of next season. Man City won’t want him leaving for free, so they could opt to sell him this summer instead.

Fabrizio Romano: Man City eye Bundesliga gem

Ahead of the summer, Man City will be scouting the youth teams of several top European clubs to find the next Rodri, a controlling, dominant defensive midfielder to lead City into the post-Guardiola era.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has said on X that Man City are keen on Hertha Berlin midfielder Kennet Eichhorn. He posted: “Manchester City join the race with Bundesliga and Premier League clubs for German gem Kennet Eichhorn.

“16-year-old talent seen as interesting profile with Man City, one more PL club and Bundesliga giants on it. One to watch in next months.”

Eichhorn is a defensive midfielder who has already broken out for the Hertha Berlin first team, making 15 appearances this season, scoring a goal in the domestic cup, and he looks to be a real star for the future.

Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt are also understood to be interested in the 16-year-old, which just shows how much of a talent he could be.

Man City could sell Rodri for £50m

He said: “The reality is that the best that City could expect is a one-year extension, perhaps. But in terms of this summer, a lot will depend on whether Real Madrid are prepared to pay, let’s say £50m, which is probably the level that City would entertain.

“I don’t think it’s a major shock that he’s ready to return to Spain, especially after the injury and the intensity of the Premier League and the fact he’s won everything. He’s 30 years old this summer. With Rodri, it doesn’t feel like he is 30 for some reason, but this is just a natural sort of time for him to consider his position.”
