Chelsea are set to make an approach to appoint former manager Frank Lampard, with Coventry City already identifying their 'top' contender to replace him, according to Football Insider.
Lampard made the move to Coventry back in November 2024, taking the Midlands club into the playoffs despite them being near the relegation zone at the time of his appointment.
Coventry failed to gain promotion to the Premier League, but they look set to at least finish in the top two this season, currently sitting top of the table with a 12-point lead over Ipswich Town.
Lampard has already spent time with Chelsea before joining Coventry, once as permanent manager before being brought back on an interim basis back in 2023.
Now, the former England midfielder is flourishing, and as a result, he's attracting attention from the Premier League.

Chelsea Set to Approach Frank Lampard
Coventry's Manager: Frank Lampard
According to a report from Football Insider, Coventry are making contingency plans in case Chelsea make a move to appoint Lampard in the summer.
It's claimed that Chelsea are set to make an approach to bring the club legend back to Stamford Bridge, and as a result, Coventry have already identified their top candidate to replace him.
The Sky Blues are believed to be eyeing John Eustace as Lampard's replacement, with the Derby manager a 'top' contender.
It's believed that Chelsea are increasingly likely to sack Liam Rosenior in the summer after a disappointing time in charge at Stamford Bridge, but it does remain unclear whether Lampard would be willing to join the club for a third time as manager.
Time for Chelsea to Move on From Lampard

Chelsea sacking Rosenior wouldn't be a surprise, and it wouldn't be the worst decision in the world if they can find the ideal candidate to replace him.
Lampard is undoubtedly a legend at Chelsea, but it's time for them to move on from him after already having him in charge twice during his short managerial career.
The former Derby County boss is doing a phenomenal job with Coventry at the moment, but he has struggled in the Premier League and needs to prove himself.
Chelsea need to find the perfect long-term appointment after regularly changing managers, and Lampard might not be the answer at this stage.
