The New York Giants are betting big on offensive coordinator Matt Nagy to transform their young quarterback Jaxon Dart. Nagy spent years molding Patrick Mahomes into a legend. Now he has a fresh project in the Meadowlands.
Dart showed flashes of brilliance during his rookie campaign. He racked up 2,272 passing yards and 15 touchdowns through the air. His legs were even deadlier. He scrambled for 487 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.

That production earned him a fourth-place finish in the Offensive Rookie of the Year race. But the Giants want more wins. John Harbaugh cleaned house to ensure Dart has the right support system.
Nagy is the center of this rebuild. He knows what greatness looks like from his time with the Chiefs. Mahomes is a unicorn. Nagy knows Dart cannot just copy that homework.
“He’s Jaxson Dart. He’s not Patrick Mahomes,” Nagy said. “I was able to be fortunate enough to be around Patrick for many years.”
The coach wants Dart to find his own groove. Using Mahomes as a blueprint only goes so far. Routines and preparation matter more than trying to throw no-look passes.
“We can use that for more, like, routines and maybe how we did things,” Nagy said. “We’ve also made it clear, you have to be Jaxson Dart.”
The Giants are surrounding their starter with veteran minds. Brian Callahan is also in the building. He has worked with Peyton Manning and Joe Burrow.

The coaching staff wants to build a fortress around their young star. They need him to speak up about his preferences. This is a collaborative effort to win the NFC East.
“It’s our job to surround him and insulate him, give him direction,” Nagy said. “But he has to be able to tell us, how he likes it.”
The Giants are not just looking for a game manager. They want a playmaker who can lead. Dart has the tools to be a franchise cornerstone.
“You look at Brian Callahan,” Nagy said. “He’s seen Peyton Manning to Matthew Stafford to Joe Burrow. That’s valuable.”
The pressure is on for the 2026 season. New York fans have zero patience for losing. Dart needs to take that second-year leap immediately.
Harbaugh believes this staff can unlock Dart’s full potential. The numbers from last year suggest the talent is there. Now the mental game must catch up to the physical gifts.
The Giants kickoff their new era with high expectations. Nagy and Dart must find chemistry fast. The shadow of Mahomes is long, but Dart is ready to step out.
