A new EV charging hub with 40 chargers was just openedby Rove; the location is Costa Mesa, CA in between Huntington Beach and Newport Beach. The new charging hub is unique in that there are also 400 solar panels on site providing some clean, renewable electricity and shade. At the moment, most EV charging stations don’t have their own solar power onsite.
The exact address of the new hub is 2666 Harbor Blvd, Costa Mesa 92626. There are amenities onsite: free wi-fi, bathrooms, a lounge, vending machines, and a grocery store nearby. Another amenity or perk which is obvious to people who live in the area but not to people who don’t is the short distance to the coast. The new site is only about 5 miles from a nearby beach, so EV drivers can stop to charge before or after a visit to the local coastal area. Orange Coast College is also in walking distance from the new chargers.

Rove is developing EV charger installations in Torrance, Long Beach, and Corona. Filling in more and more public EV chargers in this region supports greater EV adoption. When the distance between public EV chargers shrinks, EV drivers are supported.
Costa Mesa to Torrance — 34 miles
Costa Mesa to Long Beach — 28 miles
Costa Mesa to Corona — 30 miles
Just two weeks ago, EVgo launched many new public fast chargers in San Diego, which is about 87 miles from Costa Mesa. With a full charge or a bit less, many EVs could easily cover this distance and there are plenty of public chargers along the way. Oceanside has many chargers and is about 50 miles south of Costa Mesa; San Clemente is about 30 miles south of Costa Mesa and has at least 90 EV chargers.
When there are public EV chargers every 30–50 miles, EV drivers have ample options for recharging and do not need EVs with 600 miles of range or some other silly number.
California is by far the largest EV and EV charging market in the US.
