Chelsea board told to make move and re-sign world class star for FREE in summer

Former Premier League midfielder Charlie Adam has criticised Chelsea’s decision to allow Antonio Rüdiger to leave the club in 2022 and has urged the Blues to consider a move for the German centre-back.

Adam, who played in the English top flight for a decade, said on a podcast this week that Chelsea’s defence “lacks the leadership and presence Rüdiger brought to Stamford Bridge” and that bringing him back would be a “statement of intent” from the West London club as they prepare for the 2026/27 campaign.

The former midfielder argued that CHELSEA had lost a “dominant figure at the heart of the defence” when Rüdiger departed for Real Madrid on a free transfer, and that the Stamford Bridge hierarchy should “make a push” for the 33-year-old this summer.

Re-signing Rudiger is doubtful for a number of reasons, not least Chelsea’s policy of primarily signing young and players with resale value, but Adam says they should shelve that playbook to bring the two-time Champions League winner back.

‘They should never have let him go or allowed him to leave,’ Adam said on Sky Sports when asked if Chelsea should consider re-signing Rudiger.

‘I understand it was Real Madrid he joined but they never should have got to that position where he could leave. He’s phenomenal. I’ve said before that he’s the ideal person that Chelsea need back.

‘When CHELSEA had Thiago Silva he was so important, Rudiger could fill the void as long as Chelsea get over this policy of only signing young players.’

Should Chelsea re-sign Rudiger?

Bringing Rüdiger back would signal that CHELSEA are serious about competing at the top end of the table. His experience in England and familiarity with the club’s culture would ease the transition, and he could mentor younger defenders.

He would be welcome back to the club we are sure.
