West Ham are one of five teams who have “shown interest” in Tromso midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl, according to reports in the Norwegian media.

TV2 claim that the Hammers are considering a move for the 20-year-old, along with Wolves, Hamburg, Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.

Hjerto-Dahl has had a very bright start to Norway’s season, which only began last month. He scored a hat-trick on the opening day against Fredrikstad, and he was on the scoresheet again when Tromso beat Rosenborg 2-0 last weekend.

Norwegian football expert Jesper Mathisen has told TV2 that the midfielder could be on the market for a reasonable fee this summer:

“If he was worth around 100 million kroner (£8m) this winter, I guess his first matches so far this year have meant that Tromso can demand at least 150 million kroner (£12m) for him now.”

Hjerto-Dahl has been backed to play at the World Cup

The midfielder has yet to be called up to Norway’s senior squad by head coach Stale Solbakken, although he has been playing for the Under-21s.

Even so, Tromso manager Jorgen Vik has talked up Hjerto-Dahl’s chances of making the squad alongside the likes of Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard:

“It’s up to others to consider whether he should be current there. But I know that Stale looks to players in the EliteSerien (Norway’s top division), since he knows it’s a strong league.”

West Ham will be in the market for a midfielder

A number of reports have suggested that Tomas Soucek could be offloaded at the end of the season, with one year left on his contract.

With Guido Rodriguez and Lucas Paqueta having already left the London Stadium, and James Ward-Prowse expected to follow suit this summer, there will be a gap to fill in the middle of the park, and it seems Dahl is under consideration.
