Maryland football adds reclassified offensive lineman to 2026 recruiting class

Maryland football continued its push on the recruiting trail, adding a commitment from offensive lineman Jon Panagou out of Pingree School (Mass). Originally a member of the 2027 class, Panagou will re-class into the class of 2026 and will enroll at Maryland on June 14th.

Panagou visited College Park just a week ago, and that trip sealed his decision. The Terps made a strong impression, giving the Massachusetts native a clear look at the program under Mike Locksley and his staff. He committed shortly after returning home after the staff sold him on jumping up a grade.

Offensive line coach Damian Wroblewski has built a reputation for identifying talent early, and Panagou fits that profile. While not yet a widely known national name, he's the type of under-the-radar, high-IQ lineman Maryland has targeted up front. The staff has emphasized developmental upside and football intelligence at the position, and Panagou aligns with that approach.

That strategy has already paid off in College Park. Current center Michael Hershey followed a similar path and has developed into a key piece along the offensive line. The staff is betting Panagou can follow a comparable trajectory as he continues to add size and refine his technique.

Maryland had to win a competition to land the 6-5, 295-pound New England prospect, beating out Syracuse, UConn, Wake Forest and UCLA. It's also a notable pull from a region the staff hasn't tapped heavily in recent cycles.
