Patriots Should Move On From Veteran Pass Catcher Soon, Sign Falcons Star

The [New England Patriots](https://nesn.com/new-england-patriots) offense lost Stefon Diggs this offseason, and they could lose another veteran pass catcher next offseason in Hunter Henry.

Henry will turn 32 this year and is in the final year of his deal with the Patriots. He is one of Drake Maye's favorite targets and was second on the team in receptions last season. However, letting him walk is the right move. Even if Henry is productive, re-signing him means the team would be banking on him to be productive as he continues to get older.

The main reason for letting Henry walk would be to replace him with a younger, more dynamic pass catcher at tight end. Lucky for the Patriots, one of the most athletic tight ends in the NFL is slated to hit the market next season as well. Kyle Pitts is playing next season on the franchise tag, but figures to hit the open market next offseason.

Pitts was a Pro Bowler as a rookie and posted a 1,000-yard season. However, it was his only season with Matt Ryan, and since then, the Falcons have not given him competent quarterback play. Quarterback play was slightly better for the Falcons last season, but the real difference was that the team started using Pitts' athleticism to their advantage.

They schemed up more opportunities for him and actually started feeding him. He had 88 receptions for 928 yards. He scored five touchdowns and had 400 yards after the catch. He is only 25 years old and would be a great piece for the Patriots.

Pitts could have a career year with Kevin Stefanski calling plays for the Falcons. David Njoku was a Pro Bowler and scored 25 touchdowns for Stefanski in Cleveland. Pitts could have even better numbers in his system.
