Report: Everton believe £30m Chelsea player will improve if he signs for David Moyes

Everton retain an interest in signing Liam Delap from Chelsea.

David Moyes actually spoke to the England U21 international last summer after Ipswich were relegated as several sides showed a desire to trigger his £30m release clause.

The son of former Stoke City star Rory Delap ultimately chose to join Chelsea – a move which is yet to work out with only two goals in 33 appearances and fierce competition from Joao Pedro.

The Daily Mail have now issued an update on Everton and Liam Delap – with the Toffees confident they can help the striker rediscover the form which led him to Stamford Bridge in the first place.

Everton think they can transform Liam Delap with regular football

The Daily Mail say Everton remain attentive to the situation as Chelsea contemplate replacing the 23-year-old this summer. Emmanuel Emegha is already arriving from Strasbourg, and had considered Joaquin Panichelli before the Argentine’s recent injury.

Everton are said to believe they think Delap would benefit hugely from a run of games like he received at Ipswich, where he made 32 Premier League starts last season – scoring 12 goals and providing two assists.

However, there is competition for The Friedkin Group in Newcastle – who also want the Chelsea No.9 and think they too can help him by offering a regular spot in the starting XI.

Delap – who Liam Rosenior has already admitted is second choice behind Pedro – has only been given nine Premier League starts this term, and with Chelsea actively looking for a new striker, we expect the west Londoners to sanction a sale unless the Manchester City academy graduate embarks on a stunning run of form between now and the end of the campaign.

The struggling Chelsea forward would also have competition to fend off at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in Beto and Thierno Barry.

However, Beto will only have 12 months left on his contract once this season ends, while Barry only has six goals in 31 appearances this term, so Moyes could use another frontman to freshen up his striker department.
