Sources: Dortmund eyeing move to sign 'phenomenal' Arsenal star alongside Sancho

Borussia Dortmund are exploring a third move to sign winger Jadon Sancho, but the Aston Villa loanee will have to take a pay cut as he enters free agency, GIVEMESPORT sources understand.

Sancho's Manchester United contract expires this summer, and there is no appetite to renew despite a one-year club option existing. As a result, Sancho will enter into free agency and is already exploring his options for the summer window.

Sancho joined Manchester United from Dortmund in 2021 for £73m, yet, despite paying such a large fee, United are content to release Sancho rather than try to recoup some of those funds.

Sources have indicated to GIVEMESPORT that Sancho is open to Dortmund, but terms are yet to be formally discussed.

The winger is currently loan at Aston Villa, and was previously loaned back to Dortmund in the 2023/24 where he reached the Champions League final. The 26-year-old also spent 2024/25 with Chelsea, who paid a £5m penalty fee at the end of that season to return Sancho to Old Trafford instead of activating an obligation to buy.

It's left Sancho facing an uncertain future, with no guarantee Aston Villa enter the race to sign him as a free agent due to both his wages, and the fact Sancho has managed just one goal and three assists in 31 appearances this season.

Dortmund have confirmed they are again looking at Sancho, as revealed by GIVEMESPORT on March 18.

“We are currently looking at a lot of players and analysing them. We check whether they can make us better. We are doing the same with Jadon,” said Dortmund managing director Lars Ricken in an interview with German paper Sport Bild.

“Of course, we are looking for an offensive player who brings quality, can help us immediately, and doesn’t require an unrealistic transfer fee. In defence, Niklas Süle is leaving us, and Emre Can will be out for a while. So we are thinking about that area as well.”

Dortmund are also looking to add a versatile right-sided attacker, with Arsenal's Ethan Nwaneri among their options, sources understand.

Nwaneri is currently on loan with Marseille and only signed a new contract in August last year, keeping him at the club until 2030, yet it's understood Arsenal are prepared to listen to offers.

Although an exit is not guaranteed, Nwaneri is potentially available on the market this summer. The player is also willing to listen to offers away from Arsenal following the arrivals of Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze last summer, even though he never agitated for a move.

Nwaneri was told, prior to agreeing a new deal, he would get opportunities on both the right and more centrally, but his game time could nonetheless be limited heading into the 2026/27 season.
