Gracie Hunt just proved that some plays are worth the wait even if it takes nearly a decade to snap the ball. The Kansas City Chiefs heiress recently went public about her engagement toDerek Green. Their romance feels like a scripted Hollywood ending for two families deeply embedded in the DNA of Arrowhead Stadium.
Hunt is the daughter of Chiefs owner Clark Hunt while Green is the son of former Pro Bowl quarterback Trent Green. While their families have been linked through football for years, the couple took a detour before finding their end zone. They first met as children but eventually lost contact.

They reconnected in 2017 and maintained a strict friendship for eight years. Hunt previously dated former quarterback Cody Keith for five months before they split. Just two months after that breakup, she finally gave Green a shot. That decision led to a romantic proposal in Mexico during Easter weekend.
“Over our eight years of friendship, we almost started dating more times than I can count, but God kept saying wait,” Huntwrote on Instagram. “But He was doing something neither of us could see: shaping us into exactly who the other needed.”
The 27-year-old was blindsided by the proposal despite knowing a future together was inevitable. Green organized a golf cart to whisk her away to a private aisle lined with candles and white flowers. Both powerful Kansas City families watched as the front office staffer dropped to one knee.
Hunt admitted she did not expect the question to pop up during their vacation. “It was absolutely magical, and I was completely surprised!” Hunt told People Magazine. “We were at a point in the relationship where I knew engagement was in our future, but I didn’t know when he would do it.”
Gracie Hunt finds her franchise player
The timing of the relationship raised eyebrows among fans following her quick transition from Keith to Green. However, Hunt insists the delay was spiritual rather than logistical. She frequently cites Proverbs 3:5-6 to explain why they remained just friends for almost a decade before dating for one year.
Green never made it to the NFL as a player, unlike his father. Trent Green threw for 28,475 yards and 162 touchdowns during his career including high flying years in Kansas City. Now Derek works in the Chiefs front office ensuring the family legacy continues off the field.
The couple is now planning a wedding that insiders expect to dwarf their extravagant Mexico engagement. With three Super Bowl rings in five years for the franchise, the Hunt family is currently winning everything on and off the turf. Hunt credits her patience for the payoff.
