Report: Arsenal overtake Chelsea in race to sign Cesc Fabregas'mainstay

Como have been immense under Cesc Fabregas with Champions League qualification and a top-four finish on the cards. Jacobo Ramon is a key part of it, earning interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.

A key part of Como’s success has been their success in the transfer market. They have brought in the likes of Nico Paz, Assane Diao, Martin Baturina, and plenty more stars that have taken Como to fourth place.

Ramon is a key part of that. Signed from Real Madrid last summer, Ramon immediately hit the ground running under the guidance of Fabregas. The 21-year-old has been one of the signings of the season.

One of many problems on the pitch at the moment 🤦‍♂️

In January, Chelsea compiled a three-man shortlist. It included new Liverpool star Jeremy Jacquet, soon-to-be free agent Marcos Senesi at Bournemouth, and then Ramon. But now, Arsenal are leading the race.

Arsenal scouts like what they see with Chelsea target Ramon

Ramon has clocked up 30 appearances in all competitions for Como this season. An old-school type of centre-back when it comes to defending, Ramon is able to combine that, with modern technical quality.

He’s missed only five of Como’s 31 Serie A games this season, and four of those have been through suspension. Ramon is one of the first names on a team sheet that looks good to finish in the top four.

Chelsea continue to be linked with Ramon, but according to Caught Offside, Arsenal have taken the lead in the race for the Spain U21 star. Arsenal scouts have been watching Ramon, and they like what they see.

Indeed, Arsenal are looking for a long-term replacement for Gabriel and believe the Spaniard can be that man. Gabriel has started to spend more time on the sidelines, and Arsenal feel Ramon can replace him.

The issue Chelsea and Arsenal have in pursuit of Ramon

The reason Como managed to see off competition in the race for Ramon’s signature last summer, was due to the structure of the deal. Not only do Madrid have a sell-on clause, but they have a buyback, too.

Impeccable performance against Port Vale.

It is claimed that Madrid can buy Ramon for a bargain fee of just £7m this summer. A tiny fee for a player who has sparkled in Como blue this season. Certainly, Arsenal and Chelsea will need to pay a lot more.

Whether or not Madrid will exercise that option, and whether or not Ramon is interested in a return to his boyhood club, remains to be seen. But for sure, Madrid hold all the cards in the race for Ramon.
