Saints would 'quickly' draft this 6-foot-3 wide receiver with No. 8 pick if he's there

The New Orleans Saints added Travis Etienne Jr. and David Edwards this offseason to bolster the offense around Tyler Shough. Those were some nice moves.

But, they still have an open roster spot at the No. 2 wide receiver opposite of Chris Olave. Instead of adding a free agent, the Saints have been routinely linked to WR prospects.

And according to Jordan Reid of ESPN, there is one receiver that the Saints would "quickly" select with the eighth pick if they made it there. That player? Ohio State's Carnell Tate.

Saints would 'quickly' draft Carnell Tate with 8th pick

"The Saints are open to the best player available at No. 8," Reid writes. "But it shouldn't come as a surprise that they would quickly add Tate if he's still available at No. 8 and have him join fellow Ohio State alumnus Chris Olave."

Tate is a 6-foot-3, 195-pound receiver who had a very productive season for the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2025.

He caught 51 passes for 875 yards and nine touchdowns, good for 17.2 yards per reception, which ranked 33rd in the country. It was also the best season he's had in his three years at college.

There are other options for the Saints with the eighth pick, most notably Makai Lemon out of USC and Jordyn Tyson out of Arizona State.

But, if Tate were to make it to the eighth pick, they'd reportedly quickly turn in their draft card and take what's likely become the top WR in this year's draft class.

At No. 1 overall, the Las Vegas Raiders are not going to Tate. The New York Jets likely won't with the second pick, nor will the Arizona Cardinals with the third pick.

The Tennessee Titans at fourth overall is the first spot to worry about, followed by the New York Giants at No. 5, and especially the Cleveland Browns with the sixth pick. The Washington Commanders could also take Tate, making things tricky for New Orleans.

But, if all of those teams end up passing on Tate for other players, the Saints would likely jump at the chance to select Tate with the eighth pick to land Shough a new top receiver alongside Olave.
