Man Utd star's loan stint now reaches ‘make-or-break point’ as sporting director hints at transfer interest

Borussia Dortmund managing director Lars Ricken could now hand an all-important lifeline to the flailing career of Manchester United and Aston Villa player Jadon Sancho.

Jadon Sancho has been out on a season-long loan at Villa Park in the 2025-26 campaign and the 26-year-old has a handful of matches left in his Aston Villa spell.

The on-loan Manchester United winger could find himself without a club in the summer ahead of his current contract with the Red Devils expiring in June.

Man Utd do not plan to renew talks with Sancho over a new deal and the former Borussia Dortmund attacker has equally failed to impress at Villa this season.

Lars Ricken on Borussia Dortmund’s interest in Jadon Sancho comes with a warning for the Man Utd flop

Jadon Sancho has netted only once and has three assists to his name in his 31 matches across all competitions for Aston Villa in his loan spell in the campaign.

The Manchester United player arrived at Villa Park on deadline day last September after his 2025 permanent transfer to Premier League side Chelsea collapsed.

Borussia Dortmund have been linked with Sancho again and the German club could try to bring the former Chelsea player back to the Bundesliga this summer.

Lars Ricken has hinted that Sancho is one option on the table for the Bundesliga, but the Dortmund managing director warned the transfer was not all but certain.

“We are currently looking at a lot of players and analysing them,” he said, as per ESPN.

“We are assessing whether they can improve our team. We are doing the same with Jadon.

“Of course, we are looking for an offensive player who brings quality, can help us immediately, and doesn’t require an unrealistic transfer fee.

“In defence, Niklas Sule is leaving us, and Emre Can will be out for a while. So, we are thinking about that area as well.”

Jadon Sancho’s remaining matches at Aston Villa could be his final roll of the dice to fully turn Borussia Dortmund’s head

Sancho has had two spells at Dortmund and the German club opted against making a permanent move for him in 2024, with Chelsea later signing the Man Utd flop.

The former England international made his name in his scintillating first spell at Dortmund, which earned him his blockbuster transfer to Old Trafford in 2021.

However, the £73m price tag that carried over Sancho’s head at Man Utd weighed the former Dortmund and England winger down during his spell at Old Trafford.

But Sancho only has a handful of matches left at Villa to ensure that Dortmund are willing to make a swoop for him one more time and rescue him as a free agent.
