Paul Merson Predicts The Result As Man City Take On Chelsea

Paul Merson is expecting a stalemate when Man City face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this weekend.

Writing in his Sportskeeda column, Merson said that Pep Guardiola’s side’s recent habit of dropping points in the league will come back to haunt them again:

“Chelsea are on a poor run of form at the moment. This is a tough game, but I don’t expect them to get beat here. Manchester City are drawing too many games in the league and Chelsea away is not an easy fixture for them.”

“People are talking a lot about Arsenal bottling the league, but over the last five league games, they have won two points more than City! So I don’t think Arsenal are doing that bad, especially with City also dropping points.”

What scoreline does Merson predict for Chelsea vs Man City?

The Sky Sports pundit has gone with a 1-1 draw, which is not a result that will please City supporters whatsoever.

Guardiola’s team could be 12 points adrift of Arsenal by the time they kick off on Sunday evening, so anything other than a win against Chelsea would be a serious blow to their title hopes.

The Cityzens have doubts over the fitness of both John Stones (calf) and Ruben Dias (muscular), while Josko Gvardiol remains on the sidelines as he continues his lengthy recovery from a fractured leg.

Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior, meanwhile, could have Benoit Badiashile and Levi Colwill back in the fold, but five others could miss the fixture.

Enzo Fernandez is not available due to disciplinary reasons, while Reece James (hamstring), Trevoh Chalobah (ankle), Filip Jorgensen (groin) and Jamie Gittens (hamstring) are all ruled out of contention due to injuries.
