The Jacksonville Jaguars took a big swing when they traded up in the 2025 NFL Draft to take Colorado’s Travis Hunter with the second overall pick. The idea was that the team would be getting a star player at two positions for their team. In fact, Hunter made it clear that he wanted to be able to play two positions in the NFL and he hoped that whatever team took him would give him that opportunity.
Unfortunately for Hunter, just one year later they have change that decision.

Jaguars Tell Travis Hunter He Will Only Play One Position Moving Forward
According to NFL reporter Evan Sidery (@esidery):
The Jaguars are officially making Travis Hunter a full-time cornerback, perRapSheet.
Hunter will have some gadget plays on offense, but no longer the 50/50 split as he did winning the Heisman at Colorado.
While injury played a factor, Hunter’s rookie season fell far short of a second overall pick’s expectations. He appeared in seven games total (starting four), logged 28 receptions, 298 receiving yards, and one touchdown.
On defense he recorded 15 total tackles (11 solo), 3 passes defended, and zero interceptions. This move goes directly against what Hunter was hoping for prior to being drafted. It will be interesting to see how the 22-year-old cornerback responds.
