Manchester United could swap one unwanted player for a highly-coveted new recruit as soon as the summer transfer window swings open. The Red Devils return to action next week when they host Leeds at Old Trafford on Monday. Michael Carrick has taken the first-team squad on a training camp in Ireland to prepare the returning international players for Premier League action.
Those who were not called up for international duty have been putting in the hard work during the break at Carton House. United coach Steve Holland has admitted the squad are "focused" on the domestic run-in and is pleased to have the group reunited. He said: "It's nice to be together again, having had a couple of weeks with all the players away and representing their various different countries.
"We've got an important run-in to go, so it's important to get the group together again and really focus on that."
Here, Express Sport has all the latest headlines coming out of Old Trafford.
Elliot Anderson transfer nears
United are intent on making a move for Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson at the earliest possible opportunity. According to Fabrizio Romano, the club are eager to bring in a replacement for Casemiro, and potentially other departing players, through the door.
United are reportedly in the market for two midfielders and appear increasingly likely to be able to offer new signings Champions League football next season.
Reports indicate that the club are gearing up for an aggressive pursuit of Anderson in a bid to fend off rivals Manchester City in the race for his signature. However, it could require an offer in the region of £100million to persuade Forest into sanctioning a deal.
With the World Cup on the horizon this summer, United will be eager to conclude the transfer swiftly to prevent the asking price from climbing even higher.
Out-of-favour star finds replacement club
With the likes of Anderson potentially on their way in, it opens the door for overlooked players to seek pastures new. One such fringe player is Manuel Ugarte, who has attracted interest from several clubs.
Aston Villa have been identified as one side monitoring the Uruguayan midfielder, according to Sky Sports. Juventus and Newcastle are also interested as Ugarte looks set to leave Old Trafford after just two seasons.
The 24-year-old has featured for just 915 minutes of football this campaign, making seven league starts and 14 substitute appearances. United have placed a valuation of around £35m on the midfielder, and it is understood that serious negotiations could commence as early as May.
