Arsenal have reportedly been offered the chance to strike a £55m deal for a Bundesliga star after 'extensive' work from sporting director Andrea Berta, with the player's agents said to have been in contact.
Arsenal brace for Bournemouth in another vital Premier League showdown
Arsenal return to Premier League action on Saturday when Bournemouth visit the Emirates, with Mikel Arteta's side sitting nine points clear at the top of the table heading into their first league game since the international break.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta applauds fans after the match
The title feels closer than it has in more than two decades.
A note of caution is warranted, though: Arsenal have lost two of their last three meetings with Bournemouth, including in this same fixture 12 months ago, and the Cherries are in decent form on the road.
The bigger picture beyond Saturday is a crowded run-in that includes a Champions League quarter-final second leg against Sporting CP at the Emirates on April 15, and a potentially decisive trip to Man City the week after.
Arsenal's last seven Premier League games in title charge Date
Bournemouth (home) April 11
Man City (away) April 19
Newcastle (home) April 25
Fulham (home) May 2
West Ham (away) May 10
Burnley (home) May 17
Crystal Palace (away) May 24
Arteta has the resources to manage it, but this is a period where maintaining focus on each individual game matters more than the accumulation of positive thinking about what might be coming.

Mikel Arteta wants to strengthen his defence.
Meanwhile, the business of building next season's squad has already moved into its early stages — and one piece of work Berta has been quietly executing over recent weeks has now been updated by TEAMtalk and journalist Graeme Bailey.
Arsenal hold talks with Castello Lukeba as Leipzig green-light £55m deal
Indeed, the Gunners have apparently held talks with the representatives of Castello Lukeba, the RB Leipzig centre-back who has become one of the most coveted defenders in European football.

Florian Plettenberg has previously reported that Leipzig would accept around £55m for Lukeba, a figure below the £69m release clause that is written into his contract through to 2029.
TEAMtalk report that Berta has put 'extensive work' in over potentially signing the ex-Lyon defender, and Leipzig are 'willing to sanction a deal' in the range of £55m.
Fabrizio Romano has put the likelihood of Lukeba leaving Leipzig at somewhere between 80 and 90 per cent — a significant statement of intent from a player who has developed into one of the Bundesliga's most reliable defenders across nearly 100 appearances in Germany.
Lukeba, 23, came through the Lyon academy before moving to Leipzig in 2023.
He operates primarily as a left-sided centre-back but has the versatility to cover at left-back, a profile that suits a possession-based system built around defenders comfortable stepping out with the ball.

The obvious question is where he fits.
Arsenal already boast William Saliba and Gabriel as one of the best centre-back pairings in European football.
Behind them, Cristhian Mosquera has impressed since joining from Valencia, Riccardo Calafiori provides cover, Piero Hincapie is closing in on a permanent summer switch to N5.
Arsenal are not the only club in the conversation, though, with Liverpool, Man United and Chelsea all having contact with Lukeba's camp, while Bayern Munich retain an interest from further afield.
