Liverpool Are Having Serious Doubts About Signing £65M Rated Crystal Palace Star - Report

Liverpool may opt against making a move for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton this summer, according to reports.

The Daily Mail claim that the Reds have “question marks” about the England international’s lack of pace.

Wharton is not the most mobile of players, and there are serious doubts about whether he has the ability to cover the ground required in a team that has more possession.

Palace have set their asking price at around £65m, but it looks like sporting director Richard Hughes is not keen on moving ahead with the deal.

Wharton has plenty of admirers

While he may not have the legs to cover great distances, the midfielder is an excellent passer, and it appears he won’t be short of suitors this summer, even if Liverpool bow out of the race.

Real Madrid, Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham are said to be among Wharton’s other suitors. There is every chance that he will be on the move over the coming weeks/months.

Will Liverpool look at alternatives?

Reports in the foreign press have linked the Merseyside club with the likes of Wolves’ Joao Gomes and Juventus’s Khephren Thuram, but the midfield is unlikely to be the main priority for Hughes in terms of positions to strengthen.

The impending departure of both Mo Salah and (most likely) Andy Robertson means a winger and a left-back will be top of the agenda.

If another player (such as Curtis Jones or Alexis Mac Allister) were to be offloaded, it would greatly increase the chances of reinforcements being brought in for the midfield.

Wharton has been regularly mentioned as a Liverpool target, but if reports are to be believed, a move to Anfield is not really on the cards.
