Former Man Utd talent with 18 goal contributions wins League Two Player of the Month Award

Former Manchester United academy star Mark Helm has been rewarded for his Fleetwood Town performances in League Two.

Mark Helm spent 12 years at Manchester United before departing in 2021.

The midfielder joined United’s academy as a 7-year-old but never made a competitive senior appearance for the first team.

Helm has played for three different clubs since leaving United, including Burnley and Burton. He is currently starring for Fleetwood Town in League Two.

Mark Helm voted best player in League Two for March performances

March was a month to remember for Fleetwood Town’s Helm as the number 10 continued his impressive form under head coach Matt Lawlor.

Helm either scored or assisted every one of Fleetwood’s six goals in March, including the four he scored himself.

That form has led to Helm being voted Player of the Month in League Two for March.

Speaking after winning the award, Helm said (via EFL): “It’s always nice to win individual awards, but I’ve got to thank the team because I wouldn’t have got it without them.

“The lads have been brilliant, and they’ve played a big part in the goals and assists I’ve contributed.

“Personally, it’s a great achievement, and it’s nice to be recognised. Over the last few months, I feel like I’ve added more goals to my game, playing higher up the pitch and getting into better areas. The manager has given me the licence to do that, and it’s starting to show in the numbers.

“I’ve always worked hard, but now I feel like I’m finding that consistency, going into every game with confidence that I can affect it. Scoring goals and contributing week in, week out is what it’s all about, and I just want to keep that going to help the team finish the season strongly.”

Fleetwood’s manager, Lawlor, was also full of compliments for Helm after winning the award, saying: “He’s hugely deserving of the award. Helmy has been massive for us, not just in terms of goals and assists, but in the way he influences performances and results.

“He’s a top professional and a really good person, which is something I always speak about. He comes in every day wanting to train, wanting to improve, and he’s got a real enthusiasm for the game.

“The lads have all played their part, but ultimately it’s down to him to deliver in those key moments and he’s been outstanding. In my opinion, he could easily have had this award for more than one month, that’s how good he’s been.”

Fleetwood are currently 14th in League Two.
