Under the rules for compensatory draft selections, a team losing more or better compensatory free agents ("CFA") than it acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks. All compensator picks take place in Rounds 3-7 based on the value of compensatory free agents lost.
As the rounds take place, the time limit per pick is adjusted. In Round 1, teams are given eight minutes per selection. In Round 2, teams have seven minutes. Then for Rounds 3-6, five minutes are allotted per pick – including compensatory picks. In Round 7, four minutes are put on the clock for each selection, including compensatory picks.
