The New England Patriots lost Stefon Diggs this offseason, and adding more talent to the receiving corps could be a priority early in the NFL Draft.
The Patriots did take a major step toward replacing Diggs' production by adding Romeo Doubs. However, Diggs was a 1,000-yard receiver and led the team in receptions. Doubs has never even posted an 800-yard season. While the Patriots think he's capable of doing so in their system, getting a proper share of targets, they may want to surround him with some more talent.
As the NFL Draft approaches, KC Concepcion has been a commonly mocked name for the Patriots in mock drafts. Patriots insider Mark Daniels also mocked him to the Patriots in his latest mock draft on Friday.
"If the Patriots don’t want to pay the price for A.J. Brown, they could try to find Drake Maye a top-flight receiver option," wrote Daniels. "Concepcion is a 5-foot-11, 196-pound versatile receiver and crafty route runner. He can line up inside and out. He had 61 catches for 919 yards and nine touchdowns last season en route to earning consensus All-American honors. He also won the Paul Hornung Award, given to the most versatile player in college football, as he returned two punt returns for touchdowns. The Patriots hosted Concepcion on an official pre-draft visit."
The Patriots are not the only AFC East team eyeing Concepcion. The Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills also have interest in him. The Patriots have been rumored to be interested in A.J. Brown all offseason, so it would make sense for them to draft a receiver early if they realize trading for Brown is not a reality.
Concepcion was tied for the SEC lead in receiving touchdowns last season, and could be a great complement to Doubs and Kayshon Boutte.
