New Details Emerge on Raiders’ Initial Response to Maxx Crosby Trade Drama

Las Vegas Raiders DE Maxx Crosby.

Since the Baltimore Ravens backed out of their trade with the Las Vegas Raiders for defensive end Maxx Crosby, there hasn’t been any movement on a different trade. Crosby is back in the Raiders’ building for the offseason program, and he seems content staying in Las Vegas.

A big reason for that is that the team worked hard to ensure the relationship with Crosby stayed strong. They didn’t put any negative leaks about him before or after the trade with the Ravens, and they have been very supportive of him since the trade fell through.

The Athletic’s Ted Nguyen offered some new insight into how the Raiders responded after they found out Crosby would be coming back.

“The Ravens eventually met the Raiders’ demand of two first-round picks,” Nguyen wrote. “Getting that sort of compensation was a feather in Spytek’s cap, despite the end result. The Ravens backed out of the trade because of a failed physical, and no matter what you believe about the Ravens’ motivation, the Raiders handled the fallout as well as they could have. According to a league source, (John) Spytek, (Klint) Kubiak, Raiders owner Mark Davis and defensive coordinator Rob Leonard all reached out to Crosby as soon as the trade fell through to reiterate his importance to the franchise and express their excitement in getting him back. It may seem like a small gesture, but good organizations don’t drop the ball in these situations.”

Any Chance for Another Crosby Trade?

Crosby requested a trade earlier in the offseason, so there was a time he didn’t want to be a Raider anymore. It appears that’s no longer the case.

He has come out and said that he’s happy staying with the team. The Raiders never wanted to trade him, but the Ravens’ offer of two first-round picks was too good to turn down. Considering the Raiders are unlikely to see a similar offer, it’s hard to imagine they’d want to trade him for a lesser return.

Now, if another team is willing to give up two first-round picks, then it’s possible that Crosby can get traded, but for now, it looks like he’ll be a Raider going forward.

Kirk Cousins Talks Crosby

The Raiders made a lot of moves to help the roster this offseason, and the team hasn’t even drafted yet. If they nail the draft, they have a chance to be very competitive this season.

One of the recent additions was quarterback Kirk Cousins, who is a big fan of Crosby and is happy that he gets to play with him now.

“There’s only a handful of guys in the league, maybe a half‑dozen, that truly you’re thinking about as you prepare for them the entire week, every play, saying, ‘What are we doing about this guy?’” Cousins told Raiders.com.

“And there’s only about a half‑dozen of them. Maxx is one of those guys where, you know, you are all week long wondering how he could wreck the game on this play, on this play, on this play.”
