The Patriots are hiring former Giants and Titans defensive coordinator Shane Bowen to their coaching staff, according to a source.
Bowen, 39, worked under Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel on the Titans from 2018 to 2023, elevating from outside linebackers coach to defensive coordinator. He was named Giants defensive coordinator in 2024 but was fired midway through the 2025 season.
Bowen and Vrabel go back even further. They were on the same staff at Ohio State in 2012 and with the Texans together in 2016 and 2017.
Bowen will serve as a defensive analyst.
The Patriots formally announced their coaching staff earlier this offseason with Zak Kuhr as defensive coordinator, Clint McMillan as defensive line coach, Vinny DePalma as inside lineabackers coach, Mike Smith as outside linebackers coach, Justin Hamilton as cornerbacks coach, Scott Booker as secondary coach, B.J. Edmonds and Kevin Richardson as defensive assistants and former defensive coordinator Terrell Williams as assistant head coach.
