"It's over" - Big name Man Utd player set to give up a year of salary to leave - Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United will not take up the option on Jadon Sancho's contract and will instead allow him to leave the club for free this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Sancho set to leave United in free transfer

The 26 year-old has spent the majority of his Old Trafford career out on loan, most recently joining Premier League rivals Aston Villa for the 2025/26 season.

His move to the Midlands has not paid off however, starting just eight top flight games, with his only goal coming in the Europa League.

Sancho, who earns £200,000-a-week according to Capology, has a one-year option in his contract, but Romano reports the player and club have agreed not to extend his current deal, allowing it to run out this summer.

This means United will no longer be able to receive a fee for his services, and will also likely force the player to take a pay cut with a new employer, but looks best for both parties.

"For Man United, the Jadon Sancho chapter, it's over.

"Sancho will be free at the end of the season, Man United will not sign a new contract with Sancho. It's not a new contract but they had an option to activate if they wanted to extend the contract for Sancho for one more season and try to sell him to make some profit.

"But Man United prefer not to trigger the option, to avoid his salary for one more season which is a big salary, to let him go on a free, to accept defeat.

"Sancho is attracting interest from Italy but also from Borussia Dortmund."

Bruno Fernandes delighted by new Harry Maguire contract

Bruno Fernandes expects Manchester United fans’ desire for “fresh meat” to be satisfied this summer but stressed the importance of tying down a pillar like Harry Maguire in what will be a period of change.

“I think Harry has been here very long,” Fernandes told the Men In Blazers Media Network. “I always say this in a way that it’s easy to understand: people like fresh meat.

“You know, when you have the same meat for too long, you start wanting a new one and football is the same.

“You have the same players and people want to change them and then when you change them and it doesn’t work out, you want those ones back. It’s always like that.

“People want fresh meat, they want new names, they want excitement, they want to see different people with the shirt and that’s normal, and I think H has coped very well with that.
