Carson Beck projected to join team with proven starter

The 2026 NFL draft class isn’t widely regarded as the deepest class in recent memory at the sport’s most important positions, but teams will still inevitably draft quarterbacks in the hopes that one of the young talents will turn things around.

One of the quarterbacks in the draft class is Carson Beck, who was the national championship runner-up last season with the Miami Hurricanes.

“[A classic pocket passer, Beck has smooth, consistent mechanics](https://athlonsports.com/nfl/carson-beck-scouting-report-2026-nfl-draft-miami-hurricanes) and a quick release that allows him to deliver a catchable ball to every level of the field. His starting experience shines through in his ability to quickly process what opposing defenses are throwing at him, and he’s not afraid to take his layups underneath, allowing his playmakers to rack up yards after the catch,” Athlon Sports’ Luke Easterling wrote in his scouting report for Beck.

Now, those clean pocket mechanics have been projected to land with a struggling AFC team in Athlon’s latest mock draft. Athlon has Beck being [selected by the New York Jets with the 140th pick.](https://athlonsports.com/nfl/nfl-mock-draft-2026-updated-latest-news-rumors-predictions)

Interestingly, New York has already acquired a proven veteran starter this offseason in Geno Smith, who started his career with the franchise.

If Athlon’s prediction comes true, it’ll be interesting to see if Beck can win the starting job.
