Rams' most likely plan with 13th overall is good news for Matthew Stafford

The Los Angeles Rams have the 13th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft thanks to the trade-down with the Atlanta Falcons last year.

It's a move that's worked out great for the Rams, as they now have a fantastic pick to land a high-impact player early in the draft. And with such a good pick, that player should be able to help right away.

According to ESPN's Sarah Bishop and Matt Miller, the Rams' most likely plan with the 13th pick is some good news for Matthew Stafford. L.A. has been strongly linked to a wide receiver with their first rounder this year.

Rams most likely to go WR with 13th pick

"But given the lack of depth at receiver behind Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, it would make sense for Los Angeles to add a pass catcher early," Bishop writes. "The Rams aren't sure how much longer Matthew Stafford will play, so it would make sense to give him as many scoring threats as possible to maximize his remaining playing window."

This is a plan for the Rams that, as Bishop noted twice, would make sense. Sean McVay and Les Snead going after a WR with the 13th pick is a move that would be smart.

While Carnell Tate isn't likely to make it there, one of USC's Makai Lemon or Arizona State's Jordyn Tyson could make it to this selection.

And if not, then Omar Cooper Jr., Denzel Boston, or KC Concepcion should all be there for the taking for the Rams with this 13th pick.

Though those three would be a bit early with the 13th pick, the Rams are one of a few teams where a "reach" might not be such a bad idea with how good the rest of their team is.

Wide receiver with the 13th pick to give Stafford another weapon, and also protect their long-term WR room with Nacua and Adams in the final year of their deals, more than makes sense, it's "seeming like an obvious pick," according to Miller.

Adding to the offense after all of the defensive additions in free agency and trade talks makes for an obvious fit that makes a ton of sense for the all-in Rams in 2026.
