Packers Trade Suggestion Lands Former 4th Overall Pick

If no other, the one position on the roster that the Green Bay Packers should be content with is their stack of receivers, even in spite of them losing Romeo Doubs to the New England Patriots in free agency, with whom he signed a four-year $68 million contract last month.

Christian Watson features to be the WR1 for Green Bay after impressive displays late last season, whilst Jayden Reed will be looking to get back to his mid-2024 form after having been sidelined for much of last season due to a foot and shoulder injury.

Indeed, the team also has 2025 first round draft pick Matthew Golden in the lineup, who despite ending his first regular season with 361 receiving yards managed 84 yards and his first ever NFL touchdown in the Wild Card loss to the Chicago Bears.

Yet, according to Fox Sports’ Ralph Vacchiano, Green Bay could look to give up significant draft capital – a second round pick pick in 2026 and a seventh rounder in 2027 – in order to further boost what appears to be an area of strength for the roster and add Arizona Cardinals wideout Marvin Harrison Jr.

Packers Could Look to Add Elite Receiving Talent

“They have the same situation at WR as usual — good depth, decent players, but no apparent No. 1. And they let their best receiver (Romeo Doubs) go while only bringing in Skyy Moore.” Vacchiano wrote on April 8. “Harrison has been a disappointment with the Cardinals, but that could be all about their miserable quarterback situation. Pair him with Jordan Love, and his numbers should soar.”

Although Vacchiano concedes that giving up a second rounder could leave Green Bay substantially short on picks; the Packers are already without their first round pick due to the Micah Parsons trade last August; head coach Matt LaFleur may be inclined to follow the anti-early draft pick philosophy espoused by his friend and ex-boss Sean McVay.

“It would be a big deal, and complicated by the fact that the Packers don’t have a first-rounder again until 2028. But Matt LaFleur could ask his old boss, Sean McVay, about why players are more important than those pesky high picks. Then he could call his brother Mike, the new coach in Arizona, and get this deal done.”

Would Using a Second Round Pick on a Receiver Be a Waste?

The biggest questions surrounding this potential deal is a.) whether Marvin Harrison Jr. has demonstrated enough to still be worth a trade total that would approximately amount to the 50th overall pick, and b.) if the Packers really want to spend their few remaining early round draft selections on wide receiver.

Any and all Packers fans know that defensive line – particularly on the interior – and cornerback are the two main focuses for the team heading into the draft. The former is particularly important given that Green Bay appear to be shifting back to a 3-4 defensive front that utilizes three IDLs.

On the flip side, investing in elite level talent, no matter the position, always has tremendous upside. And there will be no players with anywhere close to the amount of upside of Harrison Jr. lying at 52 for the Packers to select come April 26 on the second day of the draft.
