In the Fiesta Bowl in 1991, Nagle threw for a program-record 451 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Cardinals to a 34-7 blockbuster show against the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was named MVP.
Following the impressive outing, the Jets drafted Nagle 34th overall in 1991, one spot after the Falcons took Brett Favre. Because the Jets had originally wanted Favre, Nagle played his entire career under that comparison.
However, he struggled as a starter in 1992, throwing 17 interceptions against only seven touchdowns. The Jets traded for Boomer Esiason the following year, and Nagle eventually finished his five-season NFL career with 2,489 yards and eight touchdowns across stints with the Jets, Colts, and Falcons.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini, who covered Nagle’s time with the Jets, rememberedhim as a “nice guy” and “fun loving” with “one of the best arms I’ve ever seen.” Meanwhile, the Louisville statement was sincere.
