It won’t be long until there’s a new batch of Seattle Seahawks players, though it may not be a big group.

The NFL Draft begins in two weeks starting with the first round on Thursday, April 23. The Seahawks currently hold four picks in the three-day event, including No. 32 overall in the first round.
So, where is the organization at in its preparation for the draft? General manager and president of football operations John Schneider addresses that Thursday when he joined Seattle Sports’ Wyman and Bob.
“We’re getting close. The scouts are back in,” Schneider said. “We have our local day today, so we have 40 guys finishing up out here today. Yeah, we have a pretty clear picture of what the (draft) board looks like.”
Schneider said the organization still has one big meeting for medical evaluations left and that meetings with Seahawks coaches will take place next weekend. But before the meetings with coaches, the scouting team will be hard at work studying prospects throughout this weekend.
“This is always a really cool weekend when the scouts are in studying because the Masters is going, we got it going all day. It’s just awesome,” Schneider said. “You’re kind of narrowing in on what it’s going to look like. And listening to all the guys, you hear their passion. Like, we can deal with this guy or we can’t deal with this guy, or I don’t feel good about this, let somebody else have them. That sort of thing.”
Schneider said there is still some work to be done when it comes to being prepared for all the potential scenarios Day 1 of the draft could present when Seattle is slated make the final pick of the night.
“That’ll be… once we get through with the coaches next weekend, I think that Monday,” Schneider said. “And then I usually have like Tuesday just with (head coach) Mike (Macdonald) pretty much, and then I feel like pretty good about, OK, if not (player) A then B, if not C then D.”
The John Schneider Show airs on Thursdays at 4 p.m. during Wyman and Bob leading up to the first day of the NFL Draft. Hear Wyman and Bob weekdays from 2-7 p.m. on Seattle Sports 710 AM and the Seattle Sports app.
