The 49ers brought in some help at cornerback Friday with the addition of Jack Jones, a veteran of 59 games and 38 starts with three teams since 2022.
The contract agreement was first reported by ESPN by way of agent Drew Rosenhaus and confirmed by a league source. Jones had a visit with the 49ers Friday.
Jones (5-foot-11, 175) has 33 of his starts over the past two seasons, starting 16 games for the Raiders in 2024 and all 17 games for the Miami Dolphins in 2025. Of his eight career interceptions, four have been returned for touchdowns.
Jones’ lone interception for Miami last season came on the first play of overtime and set up a game-winning field goal against Washington.
A fourth-round draft pick by New England in 2022, Jones joins a group which barring trades or premium draft picks includes starters Deommodore Lenoir and Renardo Green, slot corner Upton Stout and free agent addition Nate Hobbs. Other corners on the roster include Darrell Luter Jr., core special teamer Siran Neal, Tre Tomlinson, Jakob Robinson and veteran Eli Apple.
Jones played collegiately at Arizona State (2019-21) and USC (2016-17).
Jones has arrests in 2018 and 2023, one for burglary and another on weapons charges at the Los Angeles Airport. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge for the burglary and served 45 days in jail. The weapons charges were dropped.
