Bruno Fernandes has revealed that Manchester United and England legend Sir David Beckham made contact with him after his latest Premier League assist feat for the Red Devils.
The 31-year-old Manchester United captain has notched up an impressive 16 assists in 28 Premier League matches in the 2025-26 campaign at Old Trafford.
Bruno Fernandes has had eight of his 16 assists coming in his last 10 Premier League fixtures under interim Red Devils head coach Michael Carrick since January.
The United midfielder’s assist-making form has allowed Fernandes to eclipse a feat that Sir David Beckham previously held at the Premier League club.

Sir David Beckham once held the record for the Manchester United player who had produced the most Premier League assists in a single season at Old Trafford.
The 50-year-old United legend bagged 15 assists in 31 Premier League matches in the 1999-00 campaign under iconic former Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Speaking ahead of Man Utd’s clash with Leeds United on Monday, Bruno Fernandes shared that Beckham “texted” him after he broke his assist record at the club.
“I’m very grateful to see my name up there with certain names and obviously you spoke about David Beckham,” he told United Review, as per Manchester United’s official website.
“For me, it’s a huge privilege to be even involved in something with his name.
“I had the opportunity to speak with him. He texted me privately on Instagram and, obviously, I felt very grateful for that, because he’s someone that probably everyone around my age has seen and looked up to and tried to replicate everything he was doing on the pitch.”

Bruno Fernandes on the importance of getting an assist as Man Utd ace chases all-time Premier League record
Only Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry have pulled off 20 Premier League assists in a single season since the inception of England’s top-flight league in 1992.
With only seven Premier League matches left to either match or better their record, Fernandes highlighted the importance of a player finishing from an assist.
“At the end of the day, the assist only comes if the finish is good,” he explained.
“Sometimes, you could do a five-yard pass, just very easy, and someone can put it in the top corner. Sometimes, you need to do a better pass for someone just to have a tap-in.”
Fernandes has made 30 appearances across all competitions in the 2025-26 campaign and has netted eight times and has 17 assists to his name for Man Utd.
