Liam Rosenior has a special plan to transform Cole Palmer at Chelsea

Liam Rosenior has come up with a blueprint for revitalising Cole Palmer, with the Chelsea head coach vowing to strip away the over-analysis that has stifled his season.

The relationship between Cole Palmer and Liam Rosenior is built on mutual trust and freedom, but it hasn’t worked out on the field up until this point.

To solidify this bond and signal a new era of leadership, Rosenior recently handed Palmer the captain’s armband for the first time during a 7–0 thrashing of Port Vale.

Despite occasional criticism for deploying Palmer on the right flank, Rosenior’s long-term plan is clearly to build the entire 2026 project around the 23-year-old.

He just needs to not let Enzo Fernandez’s central role get in the way once he returns from suspension.

Liam Rosenior’s plan for Cole Palmer

Comments from Liam Rosenior ahead of the Manchester City clash were shared by Lloyd Canfield, where he reveals what he plans to do with Cole Palmer.

“You give him confidence. You point out the things he’s doing well. You point out the things that are still very, very positive in his game. In terms of chance creation, I’ve gone through the stats.

“The chances he’s created in our difficult times were very, very high for the league. We just didn’t take the chances that he created. I showed him that. You can over-analyse at times, but that’s not what I want Cole to do. Cole’s an intuitive player. He needs to be free to express himself to the best of his ability.”

A lot of it is down to Cole Palmer

To fully rediscover his world-class form, Palmer needs to resist the urge to drop too deep in search of the ball. While his desire to help the team’s build-up is commendable, it often leaves Chelsea without a central threat. By staying higher in those high-danger zones and trusting his intuition over tactical over-analysis, he can move from being a facilitator back to the ruthless finisher Chelsea desperately needs.

Even Paul Merson has spoken on how much he wants Palmer to play in the number 10 position and go back to what he knows at Chelsea, rather than overcomplicating things.
