Gary Cahill claims Chelsea have a player who will be ‘devastating’ very soon

Former Chelsea captain Gary Cahill has tipped Cole Palmer to rediscover his form just in time for the season’s decisive run-in.

As Chelsea enters the final stretch, Cole Palmer’s role is becoming even more important, but he has not quite managed to reach his normal levels.

With the race for a top-five finish balanced on a knife-edge, Chelsea currently trails Liverpool by a single point, and Palmer is the individual Liam Rosenior is banking on to bridge that gap.

Having recently overcome a gruelling 19-game injury layoff, Palmer’s return to full fitness coincides with a brutal run-in that includes Manchester City and Manchester United, as well as Liverpool.

It’s not just Chelsea’s season that is of importance to Palmer, though, as he’s still playing for a place at the World Cup this summer, due to the competition in the number 10 role.

Gary Cahill backs Cole Palmer to come good at Chelsea

While talking on HBO Max, Gary Cahill has insisted that Cole Palmer will return to his best real soon, and that Chelsea aren’t the same team without him.

“I think that Cole Palmer is a devastating prospect for Chelsea and his numbers in terms of goals and assists is frightening, but Chelsea are a different team with him in the starting lineup.

“I feel like we’ll see him getting back to his best very shortly, hopefully, but world-class player.”

Interestingly, Liam Rosenior has been working on his own plan to make Cole Palmer come good at Chelsea, so we will wait and see what happens with that.

Paul Merson emphasises the point on Cole Palmer as a number 10

Paul Merson has always been a big fan of Cole Palmer, but even he’s demanding more from him in the number 10 role that hasn’t always been handed to him recently.

“I’ve already said this many times, Palmer should always play as the no.10. I expect Chelsea to give City strong competition in this game.

“I’m going for a draw here, which essentially means Arsenal to win the league!”
