TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino has singled out Axel Disasi as a key figure in West Ham’s turnaround in recent months.

The Frenchman had been frozen out by Chelsea, but he has been excellent for Hammers since arriving on loan at the beginning of February.

Speaking about Disasi after the 4-0 win over Wolves on Friday evening, Cascarino said:

“What amazes me about football, Disasi, had been deemed not good enough, and Chelsea, by the way, need centre-halves and have been really poor in that position. He’s turned up at West Ham and played really well for them.”

The victory at the London Stadium on Friday was a stark contrast to the reverse fixture at Molineux back in early January, when Nuno Espirito Santo’s men lost 3-0.

There have been major changes at both ends of the pitch since then. Disasi’s arrival (and Konstantinos Mavropanos’s excellent form) have contributed massively to the club’s improvement defensively.

At the other end, the appointment of Paco Jemez has had a major impact, while the signings of Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe have also added some bite and physicality to the forward line.

Will Disasi stay with West Ham?

The Irons did not manage to secure a purchase option on the 28-year-old, and that means a transfer fee will have to be negotiated with Chelsea.

With Disasi having given a good account of himself, the Blues may feel they can up his asking price, which could complicate talks between the two teams over a move at the end of the season

Of course, any discussions on a permanent deal will be dependent on West Ham staying up, but after the victory over Wolves, that looks more likely.
