Manchester United will look to sign a new left-winger this summer following their failed January move for Antoine Semenyo, according to ESPN.
Man United chiefs will be starting to put their summer transfer plans together as they get closer to confirming a spot in next season's Champions League following a two-season absence from Europe's elite club competition.
The Red Devils know that a top-five finish will be enough to see them return to the Champions League, with Michael Carrick's men currently seven points ahead of sixth-placed Chelsea with seven matches of the season left to play.
United will look to cement their third spot when they host relegation-threatened Leeds United at Old Trafford on Monday night, with Carrick looking to pick up a positive result to help his chances of landing the job permanently ahead of next season.
The 44-year-old has played a key role in the club becoming favourites to qualify for the Champions League after taking 23 points from a possible 30 available since replacing Ruben Amorim in January on an interim basis.
Man United Want Left Winger On Top of Midfielder
Manchester United senior officials Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada look on
While United's primary focus in the summer is to sign a world-class midfielder to replace the outgoing Casemiro, they are looking to strengthen other areas of the team too - something that would be even more possible if they boosted their financial situation by qualifying for the Champions League.
A second central midfielder could be brought in alongside a left-back and a new goalkeeper should Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir both leave, while they are also keen on a new left-winger, according to ESPN.
United were in contention to sign Semenyo from Bournemouth during the January transfer window, before being blown out of the water by Manchester City's financial offer to the Ghana international, which saw him move to the Etihad instead.
According to ESPN, United scouts and recruitment analysts have been tasked with finding a left-winger who is 'an Amad on the other side', following the Ivorian's impressive breakthrough at Old Trafford.
Who Could Man United Target?
Yan Diomande
There have been two names heavily mentioned who would fit the brief for United.
The Red Devils are said to be strongly interested in a move to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, with their top-four rivals potentially open to a deal worth £80m+ to sell him this summer, given their own financial worries.
Both Carrick and United director of football Jason Wilcox have worked with Rogers before at Middlesbrough and Manchester City respectively, which explains why he could become a key target.
Another option could be RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande, who is seemingly being watched by most of the big clubs in Europe right now.
The 19-year-old has established himself as one of the most exciting young wingers in Europe this season, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists in 30 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit.
Similarly to Rogers, the teenager is likely to cost at least £80m, with a reported €100m (£87m) price tag on his head ahead of the summer.
