Eriksen 2.0: Man Utd in talks to sign 28-year-old star, he's about to green light move [view]

Manchester United could be closing in on their first summer signing with one target about to green-light his next move, according to reports.

Man United can further cement their spot in the Premier League's top three when they host Leeds United at Old Trafford on Monday night, as they close in on Champions League football for next season.

The Red Devils surged into the top four after the appointment of caretaker manager Michael Carrick, who has picked up a possible 23 points from a possible 30 since he replaced Ruben Amorim on an interim basis in January.

The 44-year-old is now a strong contender to be named as United's next permanent boss such is the impact he has made, with his chances only being further strengthened should he guarantee Champions League football in the coming weeks.

United have some big plans in the summer transfer window, not least signing a world-class replacement for the departing Casemiro, with that player likely being joined by another central midfielder as Red Devils chiefs target two individuals in that position, according to GIVEMESPORT sources.

They will look at other positions too, with a decision on one potential deal imminent.

Man United in Talks Over Marcos Senesi Deal

Man United are reportedly in talks with the agents of Bournemouth star Marcos Senesi over a summer switch, alongside Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

The trio are keen to land the Argentina international, who has been a solid and consistent performer for the Cherries since joining them from Feyenoord in 2022.

The 28-year-old is set to be available on a free transfer this summer having turned down the chance to stay at the Vitality Stadium, with a decision on his next club said to be imminent.

While there is said to be interest from other clubs such as Juventus, United, Spurs and Chelsea are ahead of everyone else in the race for the South American's signature.

Senesi Would be Eriksen 2.0

While rumours begin about the big-money signings Man United could make this summer, supplementing them with bargain deals for players like Senesi is a no-brainer.

Part of United's recent transfer strategy has been to target players with Premier League experience, with the 28-year-old fitting the bill having appeared 110 times in the English top flight for Bournemouth.

The Argentina international has been key to the Cherries going unbeaten in their last 12 top-tier matches, including 11 since they lost Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City at the beginning of 2026.

United don't often sign players on free transfers, although Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have been two big-name examples in the last decade.

Senesi would be more like a repeat of the addition of Christian Eriksen for nothing. There are parallels between how the Denmark international was impressing for a smaller Premier League team in Brentford prior to making the move to Old Trafford, and the defender's current status as a key man for Bournemouth.

The 28-year-old is ready-made to step in at United if needed, although you do wonder exactly where he would fit in given the Red Devils currently have Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro to choose from in the centre-back position.
