Bruno Fernandes matches Man Utd legend as he is one award away from Premier League immortality – opinion

Bruno Fernandes’ latest Premier League Player of the Month award win only reinforces that he will be sitting alongside Cristiano Ronaldo as a Manchester United legend long after his Old Trafford exit.

The 31-year-old Manchester United captain has once again stepped up for the Red Devils in a way not many have come close to in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Bruno Fernandes’ burst of form in the second half of the 2025-26 Premier League season under Michael Carrick has shown his true capabilities in the final third.

Cristiano Ronaldo made his mark during his first and second spells at Old Trafford, but it is becoming hard to deny Fernandes’ equally impressive impact at United.

Bruno Fernandes’ reaction to equalling Cristiano Ronaldo’s Premier League feat sets the stage for him to eclipse him

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes was crowned the Premier League Player of the Month winner for the sixth time after the end of the March international break.

The Red Devils midfielder’s exploits moved him alongside Cristiano Ronaldo for the Man Utd player to have won the most Player of the Month awards in history.

Fernandes’ form has been ever-present in his numbers as a lethal No 10 in Michael Carrick’s tactical system for Man Utd since the Red Devils axed Ruben Amorim.

The United skipper has picked up an impressive eight assists and netted three times in Carrick’s 10 Premier League matches in charge as interim head coach so far.

Fernandes was humble about matching Ronaldo’s feat, but the Portugal international has every right to be confident about surpassing his milestone this season.

“Yeah, it’s always good company to be in,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“We know when his records are there, his name is gonna be always around, so it’s quite common for anyone and everyone in the world of football.

“But it is obviously a huge honour and privilege for me to be close to him in this category.”

The all-time Premier League Player of the Month award record is now in the hands of Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes

Only former Tottenham striker Harry Kane, Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and former Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero are ahead of Fernandes now.

Harry Kane, Mohamed Salah and Sergio Aguero all hold the Premier League Player of the Month record collectively, with each of them winning it seven times.

However, Aguero has since retired, Salah will be leaving Anfield this summer and Kane is currently preoccupied with his football at German side Bayern Munich.

Fernandes not only has the opportunity to move ahead of United legend Ronaldo, but also to match and smash the all-time record for Player of the Month awards.

United are keen to keep hold of Fernandes beyond this summer’s World Cup and it is likely the former Sporting CP midfielder will extend his future at Old Trafford as well.

Time is on the side of Fernandes, who now has the perfect opportunity to etch his name into Premier League immortality with the form that he is continuing to show.
