Not Arsenal or Liverpool - Newcastle United star linked with surprise summer transfer

Anthony Gordon has been linked with a move away from Newcastle United in recent months.

Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.

Alongside Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento, the 25-year-old has been linked with a potential Toon exit this summer. Gordon has endured a mixed campaign at St James’ Park - with 17 goals across all competitions not exactly painting the full picture.

Just six of those strikes have come in the Premier League, with Gordon’s return improving since being played as an out-and-out striker. Eddie Howe’s faith has been repaid with goals in three consecutive games, although the jury remains out about his capabilities up front.

Anthony Gordon rumour mill

While not as prevalent as Tonali, speculation has been rife regarding Gordon’s future. He previously admitted that talk of a potential move to Liverpool two years ago affected his form.

Since then, Gordon - contracted until 2030 - has chosen to ignore the outside noise. Recent months have seen the Toon ace linked with Arsenal, who are expected to be in the market for a left-winger.

Interest from Liverpool remains - especially now Mohamed Salah has announced his upcoming departure. Newcastle do not wish to sell the England international but also want to avoid another Alexander Isak situation.

If a player asks to leave, the Magpies will facilitate a sale, provided their price tag is met. With four years on his contract, Newcastle would command a hefty fee for Gordon - widely considered one of their better stars.

Bayern Munich want Anthony Gordon

Caught Offside now claim German giants Bayern are monitoring the situation. The Bundesliga club have used the Premier League market in recent years.

Harry Kane is the obvious example - but Michael Olise has developed into one of the world’s best widemen since leaving Crystal Palace. Interestingly, as a winger, this could be an area of interest for Gordon should Bayern come calling.

Anthony Gordon on previous saga

Last summer - at the height of the Alexander Isak saga - Gordon sympathised with his former Toon teammate. He reflected on the previous year when being linked to Liverpool impacted him mentally.

“It’s true, that was the case,” he said of his mental struggles during the saga.” Gordon told the Daily Mail. “I would never lie. It was difficult for me because, for one, I had the Euros, which was horrendous for me mentally. I was there, I wasn’t playing.

“Then I had the transfer stuff. With PSR, I thought I was going to leave at some point in the window. It didn’t happen. I had to get my head around that to begin with (thinking he was going), and then to get my head around it again (when it didn’t happen) was hard.”

“I’m a human being. It’s really difficult. That is why I understand what Alex is going through. I feel for him. He will be going through a lot.”
