Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has offered the clearest indication yet that he intends to remain at Old Trafford long term, declaring that he feels “at home in Manchester” as speculation around his future continues to circulate across Europe.
Speaking while on international duty with the Portugal national football team, Fernandes addressed recent rumours linking him with a potential move away from Old Trafford. Reports in Spain and Italy had suggested that several clubs were monitoring his situation amid uncertainty surrounding Manchester United’s direction and ownership restructuring. But the midfielder’s latest comments appear to reaffirm his commitment to the club he joined in January 2020
“When you spend so long in a place, you kind of feel part of it, and obviously I’m very proud of my country, and I love to be there, but I feel at home in Manchester, and my kids feel at home here,” Fernandes told Men in Blazers.
“But obviously I feel at home at Manchester. My kids feel at home here. So it’s it’s wonderful for me to be to be in a place where my, my kids can enjoy so much and, and feel so much at home as they do in Manchester.”
And asked what United have to do to be considered truly ‘back’, Fernandes replied: “First of all, you have to understand the place you are, how much it means to be here, not just for everyone on the outside.
“When we see fans, whatever is around the world, we know how much it means for every player that has the chance and the opportunity to represent this club. And obviously I think to achieve it, this club will always be winning trophies and that’s all every player wants to do when it comes to this club.
“You could be in the worst position as you want, but there is no player that comes to this club and never thinks about winning the Premier League, the Champions League, the Carabao Cup, anything that you could be involved.
“You are going to always think that at this club you can you can achieve anything.”
Why Fernandes’ reassurance matters
In a Manchester United side still searching for consistency and identity, Fernandes remains the heartbeat of the team—creatively, emotionally, and tactically. His influence extends far beyond goals and assists; he sets the tone in intensity, mentality, and accountability. Losing a player of that stature would have been a major setback for the club’s rebuilding plans.
By expressing his desire to stay, Fernandes not only quiets speculation but reinforces his role as a foundational pillar for United’s future
