While all eyes are on this afternoon’s Chelsea – Man City game, there is a little bit of transfer news bubbling up too.
A name that we’ve heard a lot recently is Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi. Today, transfer insider Matteo Moretto has said that the defender is “close to choosing his new team.”
Chelsea, along with Man U and Tottenham, are in contact with his agents, and are much closer to a deal than an other English team.
How Senesi could fit into Chelsea transfer strategy
He fits Chelsea’s criteria well. They have shown they’re willing to sign older players if they’re available on a free – as they did with Tosin. They also want to sign experienced Premier League players, and central defenders.
Senesi ticks all the boxes. The potential issue is with wages. Given it’s a free transfer, the Argentine can make big demands. The fact that Man U and Tottenham are also interested gives him even more leverage.
Chelsea will want this deal – but not at a salary level which ruins their careful structure.
